Safety at sea comes first
Mondiale VGL follows the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) International Convention across our transport network. That includes declaring the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of containers carried on merchant ships between ports.
Protecting seafarers and your cargo
The SOLAS and VGM declaration complies with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) regulations on safety and VGM.
The regulations apply globally. They require freight forwarders, shippers, and vessel and terminal operators to have policies that make sure cargo VGM is reported accurately and on time.
A false declaration can lead to:
- Injury or death
- Cargo collapse
- Vessel instability
- Damage to the vessel and to other cargo
- Infrastructure and processing breakdowns
- Transport delays if cargo is heavier than declared
