The Suez Canal today remains impassable after the 400 metre, 224,000 tonne, 20,000 TEU vessel Ever Given ran aground early last week.
Encouragingly, overnight dredging efforts have freed Ever Given’s rudder and the propeller is now working, however, the front of the vessel remains wedged in sandy clay on the shallow eastern wall of the canal where ground-based recovery works continue.
Shipping Lines are now rerouting some vessels around the Cape of Good Hope, which adds almost two weeks to the scheduled journey
VGL’s customer service has, and will continue to provide specific updates directly with customers who have cargo loaded on vessels impacted by the blockage.
Should you have any questions relating to the above or require further information, please contact your local VGL representative.
