The Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE) continues to face considerable resource challenges credited to high import volumes. There are significant resulting delays and last-minute cancellations of appointments for Victoria and New South Wales inspections.

This is exclusively attributed to staffing levels and the interruption has created a backlog of inspections and which is expected to continue over the coming months. DAWE has provided the following statement:

“A combination of high volumes of incoming cargo, our borders reopening to passengers and cruise vessels, a changing biosecurity risk profile, as well as the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, both across the department’s workforce and at third party premises.

As a result, inspection appointments are experiencing delays and in some cases are needing to be rescheduled, often at short notice.”

We have been working closely with DAWE on a daily basis and requested additional bookings including after hours, however with the shortage of officers it is unlikely our requests will be met. At present, we estimate an approx.

3-4 week delay with our backlog of over 50+ inspections. Will continue to monitor the position closely and expedite wherever possible.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your local Mondiale VGL representative for any further information or clarification.
